The dam breaks (again)

This afternoon I was reminded that whenever I listen to Bruce Cockburn, I experience a deeper vulnerability and learn something new. I can count on getting connected and inspired and being moved, often to tears. And it's not so much what he's saying as the feeling of it when it hits the air. It's his guitar playing in World of Wonders. It's his voice cracking in Beautiful Creatures. It's a line that sticks with me like I learned as a child not to trust in my body from Last Night of the World. His music sounds like joy and pain; faith and despair.

Today when I listened to Cockburn, I got a deeper sense of creative integrity and what it means. It's not that we're true to ourselves, but that we follow our creativity where it wants to go. I had a flash of understanding elements, revisions, pacing, time and that beautiful empty space which holds the power to transform. I get it. I just get it. And it's in me, too.
